Zimlink had the opportunity to catch up with Shanky, at the Zimbabwe clash this year!

Shanky started singing at the tender age of 5 in a children’s church choir at the Cathedral of The Sacred Heart in Harare Zimbabwe. She also come from a musical family with her uncles having been in bands, this influenced the young songstress’ love for music from such a young age. This continued during her school years at Chishawasha Primary, where she would lead her fellow students in church music and was always involved in school singing competitions.

Having started writing , recording and releasing her own music , which was well received by many, Shanky managed to win female Zimbabwean artist of the year (2 years running) and also managed to scoop the much coveted young Zimbabwean achiever award in 2013. Her music has featured on radio stations such as ZIFM, Star FM, BBC 1xtra, Naija FM and many radio stations in and around the UK.

She was aired on Klear TV (SKY 232) a few year ago singing  her own rendition of the Zimbabwe’s national anthem for Independence day celebrations. Her rendition was well-received and left many viewers from other nations in awe of what Zimbabwe has to offer.  Her appearance on the TV station is available on YouTube.
